CHAPTER TWELVE

Taylor noted the sheen over Justin’s eyes as he dropped and turned, as well as the wince. One could wait; the other was more serious.

He walked around, triangulating with Justin and the door. “Your eyes revealed you’re a shifter.”

Justin blinked, and his eyes returned to blue. Letting the wolf rise made him stronger in a fight, and maybe the hunters wouldn’t notice, but if they were good—and they appeared to be—they would. He took a step forward, but his gaze was on Taylor as though expecting to be tackled.

“Is that the fastest you can move?” He wasn’t going to let Justin step off the mats, but he didn’t know that, and the unknown was often worse.

He took another hobble and wince toward the door. He had to be hurting, and Taylor felt bad about that. There were moments when Justin didn’t look at him like he was a complete and utter cunt, but they were becoming less frequent. Either because he was better at shoving away the desire than he was, or Taylor had killed it by being an asshole.

Taylor walked behind him and scooped up the rope and hood.

Justin quickened his pace as though he’d been given a free shot.

“You left possible weapons behind.” He tucked the hood in his back pocket. He hated any training that involved it and the use of strong scents to stop shifters from using their nose. He hadn’t done that to Justin yet. But he would.

To his credit, Justin didn’t turn. Taylor let him get a pace within the edge of the mat. If he was really being a prick, he’d swing the rope and knock him off his feet. It wouldn’t take much since he was already fighting for every step.

He slapped the rope on the mats next to Justin. He startled, and Taylor grabbed him, pinning his arms to his sides. “You didn’t think I was going to let you walk out, did you?”

Justin tried using force and then wriggling to be free.

“Have you never done any fighting?” He took a step back, lifting Justin clear off the ground and precious centimeters away from the door.

“No.”

“You keep doing that, and you’re going to exhaust yourself. Use your head…literally.”

Justin took a moment before snapping his head back.

Taylor tucked his head to avoid the strike. “Use your feet. Stamp on my foot, kick my shin. While I’m distracted, you’ll be able to get free.”

That time, he let him break free before grabbing the back of his T-shirt. Justin slipped free of his shirt.

Nice. Both the move and the view. But now he had another weapon he could use. He twirled the T-shirt and used it to flick Justin on the ass.

“What the fuck?” He half turned, distracted from his objective.

Taylor did it again, this time catching him across the thigh. “You gave me a gift, and I’m using it.”

Justin’s jaw clenched, and his eyes shimmered as his wolf rose again.

“Wolf…tamp it down.” He circled and flicked him again, not hard, but enough to piss him off.
